From there you can take the cliff steps up to the ruins of St Catherines Castle
Steeped in history, St Catherines is one of a pair of small artillery forts built by Henry VIII in the 1530s to defend Fowey Harbour. The other is the Block House located across the water in the neighbouring town of Polruan.
St Catherines Castle was modified in the 19th century during the Crimean War and again during the Second World War, when it became home to an anti-aircraft gun and an ammunition store.
